Delta and Foothills Tour
A unique tour concentrating on the finest fauna and flora the Northeast has to offer. One of the most diverse and eco-logically important regions of India it is a wildlife lover’s haven. Focussing on the varied and fascinating wildlife of the region we will explore 3 of the best wildlife parks in India, each home to some of the most endangered wildlife in India. From Kolkata we’ll transfer to the Sunderbans Delta, the largest Mangrove Delta in the world and one of the few remaining true wilderness areas. Here we will spend the time exploring the region by boat cruises through the many creeks and canals. Apart from Tigers some of the other wildlife highlights which can be seen here include, Salt Water Crocodile, Irrawaddy Dolphin, Giant River Turtle (Batagur), Spoonbill Sandpiper, White-bellied Sea Eagle and Spot-billed Pelican.
From the Sunderbans we will transfer back to Kolkata to catch the connecting overnight train (Saraighat Express) to Guwahati from where we will make our way to Kaziranga National Park one of the finest parks in the world. This World Heritage Site is home to many Globally Threatened animals, such as the largest population of Indian Rhino’s, Bengal Tiger, Hoolock Gibbon and Ganges Dolphin. One of the best birding sites in the world there has been 450 species of birds recorded here, 18 of which are classified as Globally Threatened, including Greater Adjutant, Bengal Florican, White-bellied Heron, Finns Baya and Hodgsons Bushchat.
Our last National Park is Nameri, one of the lesser known jewels of India this is a small park and is home to some of the most exotic and endangered wildlife in the World. Two of the finest species that this park is renowned for are the Clouded Leopard and White-winged Duck. Nameri also has a unique distinction that no jeep safaris are carried out and the only way to explore the park is either by foot or by boat.
From Nameria we will transfer to Guwahati Train Station to catch the Saraighat Express (overnight train) back to Kolkata for return flight.
