Tiger Tiger
A tour concentrating on the worlds favourite Apex Predator, the Tiger. Probably the most recognisable animal on the planet, yet only a few have been privileged to see one of these charismatic creatures in the wild. This bargain tour is designed to give you the best possible opportunity of joining this select club. Visiting two of the India’s finest parks, Kanha and Corbett both renowned for their high density of Tigers. These two parks also offer an unparalleled Indian wildlife safari experience.
Starting off at Kanha we will explore the magnificent surrounding Sal forests and grasslands of which the Tiger has perfectly adapted camouflage to blend into these surroundings. It is perhaps this remarkable attribute which adds to mystery and allure of this beautiful and powerful cat, for seeing a tiger gracefully merge into its surroundings then reappear again is one of the most magical wildlife sightings imaginable.
Apart from Tigers, Kanha, also affords the would be safari enthusiast the possibility of seeing a variety of other iconic Indian wildlife such as Gaur, Dhole, (Asian Wild Dog), Hard Ground Barasingha and Sloth Bear. At 1,945 square kilometres Kanha is one of the largest Tiger Reserves in India. Located on a plateau in the Maikal range of hills and comprising of forested hills that embrace broad undulating grasslands and Sal forests, Kanha, truly is an awe inspiring park. Famous for its Swamp Deer (Hard Ground Barasingha) for which Kanha was originally established in 1955. However, with the advent of ‘Project Tiger’ in 1973, Kanha has become one of the Project's premier Tiger Reserves. Its open and wide meadows are ideal for Tiger viewing, making it one of the best places in the world in which to search for this majestic big cat.
From Kanha via Delhi we will make our way to Corbett National Park. Named in honour of legendary hunter and conservationist Jim Corbett, it is the flagship and birthplace of Project Tiger. Nestled in the foothills of the Western Himalayan Range, Corbett is India’s first National Park and one of the only ones which allow overnight stays in the heart of the park. The Forest Rest House in the Dhikala Zone is one of the best places to be based for Tiger Sightings, due to the unusually high density of Tigers. With the Ramganga River meandering through the open Chaurs (Grasslands) where huge herds of Chital (Spotted Deer) congregate to spend the day grazing coupled with the large tracts of beautiful Sal Forests that surround these Chaurs it really is the ideal habitat for the Himalayan Tiger. Apart from Tigers Corbett is also renowned as one of the best parks in India to see the Asian Elephant. Other mammals that can be seen in Corbett include Smooth Coated Otter, Hog Deer, Jackal, Barking Deer and Yellow-throated Marten.
This tour is one of the best Tiger Tours around and although one can never guarantee the sighting of such an elusive cat as the Tiger the possibility of seeing one in its natural environment is extremely high. Because of its proximity to Delhi there is also the option of extending the trip with extensions available to the Chambal Sanctuary, Ranthambhore Tiger Reserve, Bharatpur Birding Sanctuary and of course Agra for the Taj Mahal
